Mainstreaming Disability - Core Issues
One of the major achievements of Disabled Rights Group in India was to incorporate the essence of the UNCRPD in the planning process of the country. The Eleventh Five Year Plan (2007-12) states that a firm approach is necessary to delineate clear-cut responsibilities between the concerned Ministries/Departments and ensure that each concerned Ministry/Department shall reserve not less than 3% of their annual outlay for the benefit of disabled persons as enjoined in the Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995.
NCPEDP has initiated a project which focusses on bringing about policy changes in the following core issues:
Under each of these five issues, Core Groups have been formed, comprising of senior people representing various stakeholder segments, including Government officials and other subject matter experts. Base Line Reports have been prepared under each of these issues to highlight the concerns of people with disabilities in these areas. The Core Group meets at regular intervals to discuss the policy issues to be taken up with the Government.
