Accessibility

Inaccessible infrastructure ensures that people with disabilities remain invisible in the public arena. The Disability Act, 1995 mandates barrier-free access to all public places and transportation systems. However, until 1999, there was no action on the part of the Government to implement these provisions.

The Base Line Report on Accessibility attempts to understand the current Indian situation vis-a-vis issues of infrastructure accessibility for people with disabilities by studying the programmes and schemes of the various relevant Ministries, reports by NGOs, civil society groups and people working in the accessibility arena.
